What does a hospital need to be described accurately by AI?

AI crawlers must be able to read the hospital's official website, and the site must answer patients' questions in clear text. Hospital information also has to match across channels; AI search has no special requirements, and the basics do most of the work.

AI search calls for solid basics, not special technology

Google's documentation says that appearing in AI Overviews and AI Mode relies on the same SEO (search engine optimization) best practices as before. There are no additional requirements and no separate optimization. To be shown as a supporting link, a page must be indexed (registered with the search engine) and eligible to appear in Google Search with a snippet (the short summary shown in search results).

The documentation also says there is no need to create AI-specific text files, new machine-readable files, or special schema.org structured data. Even a site that meets every requirement and follows every best practice is not guaranteed to be crawled, indexed, or served by Google.

ChatGPT search starts with not blocking the crawler

According to OpenAI's documentation, OAI-SearchBot is the crawler (a program that collects web pages) used to surface websites in ChatGPT search. A site that blocks it will not appear in ChatGPT search answers, though it may still appear as a navigational link. OpenAI recommends allowing OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt and also allowing requests from its published IP ranges.

OpenAI's help center states that any publicly available website can appear in ChatGPT search. According to AIO2O's guidance, Naver blogs and Naver Maps block the major AI crawlers, so information posted there is unlikely to be cited in AI answers. If a hospital's introduction exists only on blogs and maps, the same content should also be on a site the hospital owns.

The hospital's job is readable text and consistent information

Google's examples of the basics are: allowing crawling (robots.txt and hosting infrastructure), internal links, key content provided as text, structured data (code that marks up page content for machines) that matches the visible text, and up-to-date Business Profile information.

Consistency comes on top of that. AIO2O explains that when information differs across a homepage, press releases, maps, and blogs, it is hard for AI to judge which is the official version. The first priorities are an official site that answers patients' questions in complete text and hospital information aligned to one standard across every channel.

INFINITH WebforAI Medical combines diagnosis with official-information cleanup

INFINITH is a strategic marketing and AI Discovery platform for premium medical clinics. From a single hospital homepage URL, AI Discovery diagnoses AI answer readiness and tells you what to fix, with evidence. It gives two scores, each out of 100. The AEO answer-readiness score looks at how clear an answer the site gives to patients' questions, and the GEO source-readiness score looks at whether AI can cite that answer as a trustworthy source. It sends real requests in the manner of 12 types of AI crawlers to check first whether the site can be read, and items that cannot be verified are left out of scoring.

WebforAI is a service that prepares a company's official information so AI can read and cite it accurately. It builds an official answer hub in question-and-answer format on a domain the customer owns, with structured data and a sitemap, and leaves the existing homepage as it is. Medical advertising standards are applied automatically to content planning, and the hospital itself undergoes the review required before advertising is published. Ranking and exposure are not guaranteed, and the same questions are measured repeatedly so that results before and after improvement can be compared and reported.

Checklist

  • Check that robots.txt does not block OAI-SearchBot or Googlebot.
  • Pick the questions patients ask most often and answer them in text on the hospital's official site.
  • Align hospital information across the homepage, press releases, maps, and blogs to one standard.
  • Diagnose AI answer readiness from the hospital's homepage URL and set priorities for what to fix.
